Toby W. Smith is senior vice president and general counsel at BWXT. Serving as the organization’s chief legal officer, he oversees all legal, regulatory and compliance matters across the enterprise. 

Mr. Smith brings more than 20 years of experience in law, including in-house counsel for the former United Technologies Corporation (now RTX Corporation) and Otis Worldwide Corporation, as well as outside litigation counsel. Most recently, as senior vice president and corporate secretary at Otis, he oversaw compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission and New York Stock Exchange regulations, managed all aspects of corporate governance, and led the company’s corporate sustainability and internal audit functions. In his previous role as vice president, general counsel of Otis’ Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division, Mr. Smith transformed the legal and compliance function into a center of excellence, driving operational efficiencies and fostering cross-functional collaboration across diverse geographies. 

Mr. Smith holds a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts from Hamilton College, with a concentration in foreign languages and minor in government. He is also a member of the New York bar.
