Howard Markle is president of BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group (NOG). Since joining BWXT in 2022 has served as deputy general manager and general manager of BWXT’s Lynchburg site (NOG-L) before becoming the chief operating officer for NOG in 2026. In these roles,  Howard has led NOG-L to deliver on high standards, significantly improving factory efficiency, which improved overall business results and increased technology use and deployment.

Mr. Markle retired from the Navy as a rear admiral after a 36-year career, serving in numerous roles on surface ships, nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. He has extensive industrial operations, repair and manufacturing experience serving as commander of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Additionally, he served as deputy commander of Logistics, Maintenance and Industrial Operations for the Naval Sea Systems Command, leading the four public naval shipyards, other maintenance and repair facilities and oversight of new construction facilities.

Mr. Markle holds a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from Penn State and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a mechanical engineer degree from the Naval Postgraduate School. Additionally, he holds a Professional Engineer (PE) license from the state of California.
