NDE Services

We offer non-destructive examination (NDE) services, crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of nuclear power plant components. We utilize advanced technology and imaging techniques to detect wear and potential issues before they compromise plant operations. Our expertise includes specialized services such as our exclusive PRIMA® inspection and repair services for pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) applications. 

Our state-of-the-art toolset, including robotic equipment, minimizes radiation exposure and maximizes inspection efficiency. We have a proven track record of successful tooling deployments, including the PRIMA manipulator for CANDU reactors. 

BWXT offers a complete range of NDE services to ensure the long-term health of a plant’s critical components: 

  • Ultrasonic testing (UT): Since 2004, we’ve used UT to inspect steam generators and heat exchangers, providing precise measurements of flaws and predicting component lifespan. UT detects minute indications undetectable by other methods, preventing potential leaks and ensuring operational integrity. 
  • Remote visual inspection (RVI): Using lancing visual inspection and FOSAR equipment, we provide real-time remote viewing of internal components, enabling thorough assessment without direct human access. 
  • Complex remote inspections and retrieval tooling: Specialized camera inspections verify annulus cleanliness and identify foreign objects, maintaining optimal reactor performance. 
  • NTL inspections: Efficient NTL inspections, utilizing the lancing rail delivery system, ensure the cleanliness of NTL and bundle regions, preventing obstructions and maintaining flow efficiency.
