False Alarm at Peterborough Facility, 1160 Monaghan Rd.

16 March 2023

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the fire alarm system was activated at BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada’s Peterborough plant, building 24. The alarm was triggered by sprinkler system maintenance being conducted at the time on the adjacent GE property. There was no fire.

The Peterborough Fire Department responded and determined there was no fire, and no activation of the sprinkler system.  The flow testing resulted in a water flow and low-pressure alarm, which in turn triggers the fire alarm system.

There was no health or safety risk posed to the public, employees, or the environment.
