PAR LogoBWXT in Canada joined the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Businesses (CCAB) in 2017 and is committed to building and sustaining positive relationships with Indigenous communities in the areas in which BWXT operates in Canada.

We are participating in the CCAB’s Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification program. PAR is an online management and reporting program that supports progressive improvement in Indigenous relations; it also acts as a certification program that confirms corporate performance at the bronze, silver or gold level. If a company is a leader in Indigenous relations, PAR certification recognizes that company’s commitment and success.

Today, BWXT in Canada is PAR-Committed – that means we are committed to the continual improvement in Indigenous relations, and our intention is to undergo external verification of our performance in the future.

We have implemented a Canada-wide Indigenous Policy that provides the framework for our program, and we are actively working through the program’s criteria to become certified in Progressive Aboriginal Relations.

Our Commitment:

BWXT in Canada and its affiliates are committed to working with Indigenous communities and peoples in the areas in which we operate. Our commitment is driven by respect for Indigenous peoples and traditional territories. We acknowledge that Indigenous peoples and communities have made significant contributions to Canada and have rights to their diverse cultural identities and traditions and to build and sustain economic prosperity.

We believe that strong communities are healthy communities, and we take great pride in our work in forging meaningful, responsible and mutually-beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities. We have implemented a company-wide Indigenous Policy that will guide us as we strive to nurture and build these valuable relationships with First Nations and Métis peoples.

Our Policy:

BWXT in Canada is committed to having a positive relationship with Indigenous communities.

BWXT understands that our primary bases of operation lie within the traditional territories of particular Indigenous communities.

Therefore, we will:

  • Work to build and maintain positive, long-term relationships with local Indigenous communities that are based on mutual understanding, respect, open and honest communication and trust;
  • Develop strategies in several key areas including employment, economic development, education, training and community support that appropriately reflect the interests of Indigenous groups and BWXT;
  • Enter into appropriate relationships with communities wishing to be informed and involved with these key areas;
  • Enhance employee understanding of Indigenous history and culture and the role Indigenous communities play in Canada and in our business;
  • Identify opportunities to increase our knowledge of the local environment and ways we can work together with Indigenous communities to preserve or enhance that environment for all to enjoy.
