Ralph T. Bailey Receives B&W PGG Engineering Honors Award

06 March 2012

Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG) has named Ralph T. Bailey as the recipient of its 33rd Engineering Honors Award.

The award coincided with the observance of National Engineers Week, a tradition established by the National Society of Professional Engineers more than six decades ago, and celebrated this year Feb. 19-25. Bailey received the award at a ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 22, in which he was recognized for his more than 38 years of dedicated service at B&W PGG.

Bailey joined The Babcock & Wilcox Company in 1973. He served as an engineer at the Company's research facility in Alliance, Ohio, where he was responsible for conducting safety-related tests of simulated nuclear fuel assemblies.

In 1994, he was named an advisory engineer and project manager in the Company's environmental technology group. He also was a key member of the team that developed B&W PGG's Flame DoctorTM combustion diagnostic system.

Bailey, a Hartville, Ohio resident, is an engineer and technical consultant at the Company's Barberton research center, where he continues to lend his expertise to the research and development of emissions control technologies as well as thermal-hydraulic testing for B&W mPower™ reactor components.

Bailey earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He has been a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for 38 years, and a member of the Institute of Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems for 22 years. He currently holds 21 patents in diverse technical areas, from the design of fluid atomizers and furnace monitors to the control and reduction of mercury and nitrogen oxide emissions. These patents have helped set engineering standards, protect B&W's intellectual property, provide B&W with a commercial advantage and advance technologies that benefit the industry and the environment.

B&W PGG's Engineering Honors Award recognizes outstanding present or retired employees of the company. Since 1983, the award has honored individuals who have made extraordinary, long-term contributions to the success of B&W PGG's products and services.
