Kevin M. McCoy is BWXT’s chief nuclear officer. Mr. McCoy is directly supporting Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg to work with General Dynamics Electric Boat, HII, and U.S. Navy leadership to accelerate the pace of Columbia-class and Virginia-class nuclear submarine construction and enhance shipyard performance.

At BWXT, Mr. McCoy made a significant impact on operational effectiveness as the president of Government Operations where he was responsible for the Nuclear Operations and Technical Services Groups and its subsidiary Advanced Technologies.

Mr. McCoy has more than 40 years of leadership in shipyard operations, nuclear industrial operations and senior engineering positions in the U.S. Navy and private sector. He served as chief engineer of the U.S. Navy from 2005-2008, and as commander of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) from 2008-2013. He retired with the rank of Vice Admiral. Most recently, Mr. McCoy served as president of Irving Shipbuilding Inc. in Nova Scotia, Canada from 2013-2021.

With extensive shipbuilding and ship repair related experience, Mr. McCoy’s span of accomplishments includes the design, procurement, construction oversight, maintenance, modernization and engineering support of the U.S. Navy’s fleet of submarines, surface ships, aircraft carriers and weapon systems. He served in leadership positions in five of the U.S. Navy’s nuclear shipyards and commanded the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 2001-2004.

Mr. McCoy earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the State University of New York and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and an engineer’s degree in ocean engineering/naval architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Emory University.
