Racing for a cause: BWXT shines at the 2026 Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival

The energy on the water was electric on June 13 as the BWXT Xtreme Paddlers rose to the moment with heart, determination and an inspiring commitment to community support. This year’s Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival was a celebration of teamwork in every sense – on the racecourse and in fundraising for cancer care close to home.

From the outset, our team set an ambitious fundraising goal. Thanks to the dedication of every participant and supporter, we surpassed our original target, ultimately raising $3,077 for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.

Across the festival, more than $322,000 has been raised so far this year. It’s incredible to know that our team played a meaningful part in that community-wide effort.

But the impact didn’t stop at fundraising – there was excitement on the water as well.

In our morning race, BWXT Xtreme Paddlers clocked a solid 1:36, setting the tone for the day. But it was in the afternoon that the team truly found its rhythm, powering through to a remarkable 1:27, shaving a full nine seconds off our earlier time. That momentum carried us all the way to a first‑place finish in our final race.

Thank you to everyone who paddled, fundraised, cheered, or supported in any way. Your enthusiasm helped us make a difference for people in our community who rely on compassionate, close‑to‑home cancer care.

Together, we didn’t just race – we made an impact.
