BWXT’s Peterborough team once again demonstrated strong commitment to environmental stewardship and employee wellness through this year’s Shifting Gears campaign, a month‑long challenge encouraging commuters across the city to use more sustainable modes of transportation. The annual program, led in Canada by GreenUP, inspires participants to rethink their daily travel in support of cleaner air, reduced emissions and stronger community partnerships.
This year BWXT proudly had 16 participants, the highest total of any workplace in the competition. Together, employees logged 585 active and sustainable trips and traveled 5,643.5 kilometers using eco‑friendly transportation. Participants also avoided 40 driving trips by working from home, eliminating an additional 190 kilometers of vehicle travel.
These results reflect more than distances covered. They show a team committed to healthier habits, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a workplace culture that values sustainability. Anyone passing through the Peterborough facility this month likely noticed the packed bike racks, a visible sign of the enthusiasm behind this year’s challenge.
BWXT was honored to receive the X‑Large Workplace Award for the second consecutive year. Building on last year’s milestone – more than 5,000 kilometers of alternative transportation logged – this year’s even greater participation highlights the growing momentum behind sustainable commuting at the site.
Thank you to everyone who biked, walked, rolled or worked from home. Your efforts continue to strengthen our commitment to wellness, environmental responsibility and community partnership.
