Last April, BWXT announced an $80M investment to expand the Cambridge manufacturing facility by 55,000 square feet, positioning our company to target growth opportunities in nuclear energy.
Globally, nuclear energy is seeing significant investment and interest as governments and organizations look to ensure energy security and meet emissions targets. This investment places BWXT at the forefront among North American manufacturers of heavy commercial nuclear components.
The dedication of our project teams, contractors, and partners has contributed to the continued progress of the Cambridge Expansion Project.
Warren Jones, Director of Construction and Major Projects, credits “the efforts and capabilities of our construction personnel.”
For those driving past BWXT’s Cambridge site, the scope and scale of the expansion are already highly visible. However, what a passersby may not realize is that what’s on display is only one part of this impressive project.
“The most challenging parts of the project have been the structural components—ensuring that the facility can bear the weight of production machinery, as well as the manufacturing of larger and more complex components,” explained Jones.
Jones also acknowledged the strong partnerships tare at the heart of the expansion project.
“I’d like to commend our partners and contractors who are working on the structural steel components of this project. ” said Jones. “The coordination between our engineering group and our vendors has been successful because of the talented and dedicated individuals working on this project.”
Special thanks also goes to Paul Irwin. “The coordination between our engineering group and our vendors have been successful because of Paul. He’s a critical component in our project and suggesting ways we can optimize, and work more safely” stated Jones.
Once complete, the facility will enhance BWXT’s production capabilities, creating opportunities for BWXT and our Cambridge community.
