B&W Proud to Sponsor U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree

21 November 2013

Tree 7.JPG(LYNCHBURG, Va. – November 21, 2013) – As the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree makes its way through Virginia on its annual trip to Washington, DC, tomorrow, it will be carrying with it the logo of The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W). B&W, with approximately 2,500 employees in the Lynchburg area, is one of the sponsors for the tree, which began its journey in the State of Washington earlier this month.

Every year since 1970, a different national forest has been chosen to provide the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree through the holiday season. B&W has been a sponsor for many years, and the Company’s involvement extends beyond Virginia. For example, employees at the Company’s locations in Texas and Tennessee have participated in events related to the tree’s 5,000-mile journey across the country. In addition, the Company will host a breakfast
in December honoring State of Washington officials, the
U.S. Forest Service, volunteers and sponsors involved in
transporting the tree to the nation’s capital.Tree 2.JPG

“This tree is often called ‘The People’s Tree,’ and it makes its way across numerous states every year with a lot of celebration and fanfare,” said Peyton S. Baker, president of Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group, headquartered in the Lynchburg area. “B&W is proud to be a sponsor for the tree that brings so many people joy during the holidays and also serves as a reminder that healthy forests do much to promote and protect our environment.”

The U.S. Forest Service provides an interactive and educational website that allows people to learn about the tree and the national forest it came from. It also tracks the tree’s progress and highlights events surrounding the tree’s movement across the nation, including an event scheduled for Friday in downtown Roanoke, 4 to 6 p.m., according to the U.S. Forest Service.
