B&W Names Ali Azad Senior Vice President, Chief Business Development Officer

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) announced today that Ali Azad is named Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer, effective immediately.

Azad will serve as a key member of the B&W executive leadership team, responsible for defining and advising the senior staff and Board of Directors on strategic direction and growth opportunities for all aspects of the Company's business. Azad will oversee all business development and strategic planning activities across the Company, working collaboratively with B&W's operations. He will also be responsible for B&W's Government Relations and Marketing & Employee Communications functions.

Azad transfers from B&W's small modular reactor (SMR) organization as President and Chief Executive Officer of Generation mPower LLC, but through his new role will continue to be actively engaged in the Company's SMR initiatives.

"Ali brings depth of experience in business development and marketing, both domestically and internationally," said Brandon C. Bethards, President and Chief Executive Officer of B&W. "His international experience and vision will serve the Company well as we expand our business and look for new opportunities for growth."

Azad's experience in the nuclear industry beyond B&W has included Senior Vice President, International and Chief Business Development Officer, Aquilex Corporation and Senior Vice President and President of Welding Services, Inc. (WSI) Nuclear Services. He also held business development and marketing positions of increasing responsibility with Washington Group International's Power Business Unit, First Solar Corporation and American Electric Power. He also served as Managing Director of International Project Development for AEP Resources, based in Singapore.

Beginning his career at Duke Energy Nuclear Operations, Azad worked as a start-up and operations engineer at Catawba nuclear station, responsible for all primary system performance testing and startup activities. He later joined Duke Engineering and Services, where he was responsible for outage maintenance planning and execution activities at pressurized water reactor stations.

Azad holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a master of business administration from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
