B&W to Engineer and Supply Emissions Reduction System for Michigan Power Plant

09 September 2010

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE: BWC), announced today that one of its subsidiaries, Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG), has signed a contract to design, engineer, supply and construct a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for Consumers Energy's J.H. Campbell Generating Complex Unit 2, located near West Olive, Mich.

Under the terms of the contract, B&W PGG will supply and build an SCR system for the control of nitrogen oxides (NOX) emissions and associated equipment and flues for the 360 megawatt (MW) Campbell Unit 2. Engineering for the project is already underway.

"B&W is a proven leader in providing emissions control systems, including SCRs for NOx reduction, for commercial power plants," said B&W PGG President and Chief Operating Officer Richard L. Killion. "We have the experience and the technical expertise to help our customers meet government-mandated emissions standards economically and efficiently."

Construction of the supplied equipment has started and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2013.

The J.H. Campbell Complex consists of three coal-fired electric generating units capable of producing up to 1,455 MW of electricity, enough to power a community of more than a million people. Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE:CMS), provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
