B&W Volund to Design Norway Plant's Waste-to-Energy Boiler

27 May 2010

Denmark-based Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S (B&W Vølund), a subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG), has signed a contract for approximately $30 million to design and supply a waste-to-energy boiler for a power plant in Norway. B&W PGG is an operating unit of The Babcock & Wilcox Company.

The plant, owned by the consortium Forus Energigjenvinning 2 AS, will be located adjacent to an existing heat and power plant near Stavanger, Norway. Project scope includes a combustion system, steam boiler, emissions control equipment and auxiliary components. The new plant will be able to burn 70,000 tons of waste per year and produce 21 megawatts of combined steam heat and power.

"B&W Vølund is recognized as a leader in waste-to-energy boiler technology throughout Europe and around the world," said B&W PGG President and Chief Operating Officer Richard L. Killion. "Our design can help customers achieve optimal boiler performance with minimal downtime for maintenance and cleaning."

Engineering is currently underway at B&W Vølund's offices in Denmark. The plant is scheduled to go online in May 2012.
