B&W Awarded Environmental Controls EPC Contract for Alabama Manufacturing Plant

12 April 2012

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE:BWC) announced today that its subsidiary Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG) has been awarded a contract to engineer, procure and construct (EPC) environmental control systems for three units at Ascend Performance Materials' Decatur, Ala. manufacturing plant.

B&W will design, supply and install three selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) systems for nitrogen oxides control and an industrial baghouse for particulate emissions control. The project scope also includes foundations, structural steel and construction services for the approximately $20 million project. The upgrade will help Ascend's Decatur facility meet the State of Alabama's Best Available Retrofit Technology (BART) environmental standards.

"B&W has the expertise and depth of resources necessary to quickly, efficiently and safely execute industrial EPC contracts and help our customers comply with state and federal emissions standards," B&W PGG President and Chief Operating Officer J. Randall Data said. "We appreciate the confidence Ascend Performance Materials has shown in B&W."

Dale Borths, Vice President, Environmental, Safety, Security and Health for Ascend, added, "We look forward to working with B&W on this important project for Ascend. We are confident that, with B&W's experience and expertise, they can deliver a quality product to our operations at Decatur."

Engineering is underway, and work is scheduled to be completed in December 2012.
