B&W Announces Retirement of Power Generation Group President; Names J. Randall Data Successor

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE: BWC) announced today that Richard L. Killion, 64, President and Chief Operating Officer of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG) will retire effective July 1, 2012. In addition, J. Randall (Randy) Data, 46, is named President and Chief Operating Officer of B&W PGG, effective April 1, 2012. To help ensure a smooth transition, Mr. Killion will serve in an advisory role to B&W PGG beginning April 1 until his retirement.

"I have the highest confidence in my successor and in the entire leadership team, and I am pleased that we have a strong strategic plan in place to ensure we continue to provide high-quality products and services to our customers and value to B&W's shareholders. I am committed to working with Randy and his team to ensure a smooth transition over the coming months until my retirement.

Mr. Data most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of B&W PGG's Fossil Power Division. In this position, Mr. Data directed the worldwide operations of the Company's fossil power business, which includes new-build steam generators and environmental products and services, international joint ventures, licensing, and service projects, and B&W Vølund, a B&W PGG subsidiary in Denmark. Previously, Mr. Data was Vice President of Steam Generating Systems where he managed the new fossil boiler business segment worldwide and the Company's international joint ventures.

Mr. Data joined B&W in 1988 as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Company's domestic fabrication facilities. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility within the engineering department, focusing on proposal and project execution activities for the Company's boiler and environmental product lines.

Mr. Data earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Penn State University and a master's of business administration from Kent State University.
