B&W Awarded Renewable Energy Contract in Sweden

31 March 2011

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE:BWC) announced today that its Denmark-based subsidiary, Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S (B&W Vølund), has been awarded a contract worth more than $30 million to design and supply a boiler, combustion system, emissions control components and other equipment for the expansion of a waste-to-energy, combined heat and power plant in Lidköping, Sweden.

The waste-to-energy plant, owned by Lidköping Värmeverk AB, produces electricity, hot water and district heating.

"Municipalities in many European Union nations are looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint, which includes disposing waste in an environmentally sound and efficient manner," said B&W President and Chief Executive Officer Brandon C. Bethards. "B&W Vølund's industry-leading waste-to-energy combustion and emissions control technologies are an ideal fit to meet the growing demand for turnkey waste-to-energy plants."

Engineering work is currently underway. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2013.

B&W Vølund is one of the world's leading suppliers of equipment and technologies designed to convert household waste and biomass into thermal energy.
